There are several ways to create colored glass. It can be colored
initially, or be painted after production. There are also various color films
and a photo-printing method. Depending on the method used, the glass may have
different properties and features.
The first method involves glass staining during its manufacture. Various
supplements are added to the molten glass mass: for example, uranium oxide
gives a yellow color to the glass, iron oxide will make it bright red, and
chrome - green. And nickel oxide will help to achieve a pleasant violet hue.
But this is not a complete list of possible colors and shades of such glass.
This method of producing colored glass gives the most durable result since the
color is, in fact, an integral part of the glass produced.
There is also such a method of creating colored glass as coloring an
already finished clear glass with an aniline dye. This method is simpler since
it is not necessary to take into account the melting point of the dye and its
effect on the process of solidification of glass.
Colored glass can be created by combining clear glass with colored
layers. For example, you can fuse a colored polymer into glass or stick a
colored film on the finished glass. Color film can be both monochrome and
multi-colored. It is possible to put any image on the film.
A photo-printing is also worth mentioning. This method is intended,
first of all, for putting images and photographs on the glass surface. It is
more convenient and simple than sticking on films with an image, and at the
same time, such glass has a beautiful appearance.
